I remember when all I ever wanted to do in athletics was run the 100 yards in less than 11 seconds. That is giving my age away as we all measure everything in metres these days. Back then, at the tender age of 14, the fastest runner in the school could do it in 10.4 and I felt a bit of a donkey trying to keep up. There was one great pleasure though, in spite of always trailing in his wake in individual events, we made up half of a brilliant relay team.

I don’t think we ever heard about tendonitis when we were fit as fleas and could run all day without any trouble.
